~ Etching on Granite ~
Etching on granite is a process that transforms the stone into a piece of everlasting art. I use a diamond point tool just as some monument makers still use. Etchings today, however, are increasingly done by laser machine. Laser etching machines transfer photographs to the granite in light tones that are not as permanent as hand etching. They are substitutes that accommodate economy of speed rather than looking at subject matter as artistic elements. Machines cannot compare to the control of the artist's hands & eyes. The deep & delicate textures produced by hand are superlative and demonstrate the artist's true understanding of the material before them.
The etchings on this page are untouched and, if viewed from a laptop or larger screen, have been enlarged so the fine detail can be seen.
These examples range in size from approximately 3" x 5" to 9" x 12".
Prices vary from $50. to $95. US + shipping & handling.
Custom orders cost the same & are welcome. They can be done on irregular pieces of 3/4" mist granite, absolute black granite tiles (up to 12" x 12") or desk plaques. Please call or email your photo for quotes.
